Farm News: Family Dairies Reaches 40 Year MilestonecommentsPosted: 05.20.2011
Saturday, May 21, 2011 marks the 40th Anniversary of Family Dairies USA. The cooperative which first came into being as Farmers Union Milk Marketing Service Cooperative and was created by National Farmers Union as a grassroots organization to fight for improved farm income and to have more impact on national dairy policy. The articles of incorporation were amended in 1973 and the cooperative became known as Farmers Union Milk Marketing Cooperative until September of 1998 when the cooperative became an independent and separate entity and changed its official name to Family Dairies USA.
The Family Dairies USA Board of Directors will kick off the celebration at their meeting on May 25th where the cooperatives foundation General Managers will be on hand to share their memories of the cooperatives beginnings. Also, in the coming months the cooperative plans to highlight its history with milestones of the vital roles it has played in the development of programs that have not only positively impacted its members but the entire dairy industry through its monthly newsletter – The Milk Matters which can be found on it’s website at www.fdusa.org.
The cooperative will officially commemorate its four decades of partnership and successful milestones with its members at their 40th Annual Member Meeting which will be held February 10-11, 2012 at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel, Appleton, WI.
