Farm News: No Call List Hits Milestone

Wisconsin phone numbers on the state’s No Call List hit an all-time high of 2.3 million, jumping four percent in only three months. And a record number of Wisconsin residents are adding their cell phone numbers to the list, with 52 percent of the total.

“Wisconsin consumers are doing what they can to take control of their privacy by adding their phones to the No Call List,” said Sandy Chalmers, Administrator of the Division of Trade and Consumer Protection. “It is an easy and effective way to reduce the number of telemarketing calls you receive.”

The No Call List is a free service offered through the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. It reduces but will not eliminate all telemarketing calls. Exceptions include charitable and non-profit organizations, political campaigns, and surveys.

Consumers must register every two years to stay on the state’s free No Call List. The next quarterly deadline is August 31, 2011, though people can sign up anytime during the year. The quarterly deadlines are highlighted because the updated lists are sent to registered telemarketers four times a year.

People can register landline and cell numbers online at nocall.wisconsin.gov or dial 1-866-9No-Call (1-866-966-2255). The website and toll-free number are available 24 hours a day, including holidays.
