The state Senate is poised to pass a bill that would designate a state fair staple as Wisconsin's official dessert.

Fourth-graders from Mukwonago have been pushing lawmakers to anoint the cream puff as Wisconsin's favorite treat. They convinced Republican Sen. Mary Lazich to introduce a bill. The Senate is expected to take it up Wednesday.

Lawmakers have created more than two dozen official state symbols already, although attempts to make Harley-Davidson the official state motorcycle and recognize a microbe that turns milk into cheese fizzled last session.
