Wisconsin farm media got it's first up-close look at the host farm for this year's Wisconsin Farm Technology Days - and what a site!
Seehafer Acres, Inc., just a few miles north of Marshfield will act as host for the state's largest outdoor agricultural event. The July 12-14th event will mark the third time that Marathon county has hosted the show - and Ken Seehafer remembers those shows. "You know it's a real honor to host this show," he Pam Jahnke me in the shade of his machine shed. "I've always admired the farms that got to host the show - and now we get our chance."
You can tell the pride and excitement that Seehafer's neighbors and volunteers feel for the show! Keith Langenhahn, neighboring dairy farmer and chairman of the Marathon county executive committee, says they really hope to showcase how vibrant agriculture is in the county - and what a bright future it has. Langenhahn is not only involved with the Marathon county Farm Tech committee - he also serves as Chairman of the Marathon County Board of Supervisors - plus he's been dedicated to grooming the next generation of agriculturists!
Langenhahn told the Farm Report that sometime toward the end of June, a group called Partnership for Progressive Agriculture, will transfer "ownership" of a new hands-on agriculture education facility to the North Central Technical College of Wausau. According to Langenhahn, the mission of the PPA is to serve as a catalyst for Marathon County agriculture. Since the group was initially formed - they've raised more then $1 million toward the educational option - and have experienced full enrollments.
What about all the financial issues Wisconsin's facing with educational funding for efforts like this? "Sometimes you just have to have faith," Langenhahn says. He said he believes the president of North Central Technical College understands PPA - and recognizes the great potential it holds not just for the college, but for central Wisconsin.
