Old World Wisconsin hosted a "One-Year-Later" appreciation event marking the progress made at the historic site a tornado felled almost 3,000 trees and temporarily forced closure of the site last year.

According to Old World Wisconsin Director Dawn St. George, "We were delighted by the response to this event. Our staff and volunteers were energized to make this a celebration of resilience and a successful season. It was a challenge to be closed for almost five weeks during the heart of our 2010 visitation season, which made this day all the sweeter."
The event took place on the Visitor Mall, site of the majority of the damage. Those attending included approximately 100 residents of Eagle and Palmyra, who received free admission on this day in acknowledgement of the community's dedication, hard work and recovery efforts following the devastating tornado. Honored guests included: Senator Neal Kedzie, Representative Steve Nass, Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas, Village of Eagle President Rich Spurrell, Village of Eagle Fire Chief Justin Heim, Village of Eagle Police Chief Russ Ehlers, and Department of Tourism Deputy Secretary Dave Fantle.
St. George kicked off the event, acknowledging the efforts of many organizations in the recovery, including the Wisconsin Historical Society, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Department of Administration, the Bureau of State Risk Management, Old World Wisconsin Foundation, Wisconsin Department of Tourism and more.
