Farm News: State Sportsmen Want Voices Heard

A fledgling outdoorsmen's group has compiled a broad-based sportsmen's agenda to push for federal policies that will improve opportunities for fishing and hunting.

The Denver-based Bull Moose Sportsmen's Alliance announced its agenda as members visited Washington on Wednesday. There, they met with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and other officials.

Salazar told the group that conservation is at a crossroads and there's a risk that that issue could be ignored as Congress deals with the federal deficit. Alliance founders say their intent is to give various conservation-minded sportsmen's groups a united voice. Their agenda
centers on promoting science-based habitat conservation, access to
public land, and sportsmen's Second Amendment rights.

The alliance has about 2,700 members and has a presence in
Colorado, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Minnesota and
Montana.
