Farm News: Fischer Exiting Extension

Dave Fischer, Dane County Crops and Soils Agent, is just the latest UW-Extension staff member to opt for the private industry as their next career move.

As of August, Fischer tells Pam Jahnke that he'll be exiting extension to become the Research Station Manager for Harris Moran Vegetable Seed operations in Sun Prairie.  Fischer says he enjoys the educational aspect of UW-Extension, and is looking forward to the new phase in his professional career.

Fischer has a BS from UW-Platteville where he studied Soil and Crop Science. David received graduate degrees from the UW studying weed management under Dr. Gordon Harvey with a minor in Entomology under Dr. John Wedberg. David specializes in crop and soil production issues.

On a yearly basis Fischer is responsible for PAT sessions, organizing tractor safety courses, and a fertilizer and soil update meeting. He spends much of his time working with Dane County farmers on crop production issues such as pest management and nutrient management.

In his job as Dane county extension crops and soils agent, Fischer's become a resource for Dane County citizens with questions relating to land values, land rent and land management. While David has specialized in nutrient and pest management issues, he is available to assist all producers and service personnel with any crop production related problem they may encounter.
