Farm News: It Wasn't Just Milk That Went Up

It wasn't just the price farmers received for milk that's been trending up - many Wisconsin commodities saw higher prices in June, according to the Wisconsin Ag Statistical Service.

Wisconsin milk, corn, and soybean prices were expected to increase from May to June 2011, while prices for oats and potatoes were expected to decrease during the same period. Prices for alfalfa and other hay were expected to remain at the same level as in May.
Corn in Wisconsin sold for an average price of $6.60 per bushel in mid-June. This was 14 cents higher than the previ-ous month’s price and $3.22 more than the price in June 2010. Nationwide corn prices averaged $6.58 per bushel in mid-June.
The average price for soybeans in Wisconsin was $12.80 per bushel in mid-June, 20 cents more than May’s price and $3.38 more than the price in June 2010. Across the United States soybeans sold for an average of $13.30 per bushel in mid-June.
Wisconsin oats averaged $3.25 per bushel in mid-June, 10 cents less than in the previous month but $1.19 more than in June 2010. Nationally, mid-June oat prices averaged $3.51 per bushel.
Alfalfa hay in Wisconsin sold for an average price of $100.00 per ton in mid-June, level with the previous month but $20.00 less than in June 2010. The average price for other hay types was $75.00 per ton in mid-June, unchanged from May but $10.00 less than the price in June of last year.
