Farm News: United Cooperative Helping VeteranscommentsPosted: 07.01.2011
Beaver Dam based agribusiness, United Cooperative (UC), was to recognize veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with a new "Operation Homecoming" project through their cooperative locations.
The goal of the project, according to Greg Adkins, United Cooperative convenience store supervisor, is to gather donations from customers. “The donations from our customers will help fund Camp American Legion by Lake Tomahawk (Wis.),” Adkins explains. ”Camp American Legion helps veterans reunite with their loved ones and refocus their priorities.” Operation Homecoming was created by the American Legion in partnership with the Wisconsin Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association (WPMCA), the state’s trade association for gasoline and convenience stores.
Adkins says, “United Cooperative decided to get involved in Operation Homecoming as a way to show our appreciation to the thousands of Wisconsin soldiers who continue to protect and serve in the military. Returning home from war is not easy, and it’s important we do our best to try and help these men and women through the healing process.”
