NOTE: Susan Quam with the Wisconsin Restaurant Association is a special guest every Thursday on the Wisconsin Farm Report network talking about the close relationship Wisconsin restaurateurs have with food producers.

The Center for Food Integrity is partnering with the National Restaurant Association (NRA) to host the 6th Annual Center for Food Integrity Food System Summit later this year. Also partnering with CFI to host the Summit for their second straight year is the International Food Information Council (IFIC).

The 2011 CFI Food System Summit, with the theme “Food Choices – Challenges – Realities,” comes at a crucial time for today’s food industry. The Summit will take an in-depth look into key issues surrounding consumer food choices, the evolving challenges of those choices and their effect on our food system and supply. Hosted at the InterContinental Rosemont Hotel in Rosemont, Ill., the Summit is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 26.

“Sponsorship of this year’s Summit gives us a great opportunity to reach influential audiences throughout the food system, showcasing our continued leadership in understanding and addressing the issues that affect our members,” said Sue Hensley, SVP, Public Affairs Communications for the National Restaurant Association.

“Having the National Restaurant Association involved in hosting this year’s Summit is a tremendous avenue for us to reach those restaurant owners and operators who can help build consumer trust in the food system,” said Terry Fleck, Executive Director of the Center for Food Integrity.

The 2011 Summit will host speakers who represent a wide range of expertise, sharing their views on key issues. Dr. Jason Clay, Senior Vice President, Market Transformations with the World Wildlife Fund, will present a keynote address. Joe Quinn, Senior Director, Issue Management and Strategic Outreach, for Walmart Corporate Affairs, will present the closing. Breakout sessions will concentrate on four significant topic areas: Food Animal Well-Being; Nutrition and Health; Food Safety; and Technology and Innovation.

Also, the 2011 Center for Food Integrity (CFI) Consumer Trust Survey results will be shared for the first time. Now in its sixth year, the CFI Consumer Trust Survey has become the preeminent, published research model in agriculture today. Whether you represent production, processing or distribution, the Summit is a great opportunity for companies to gain new insight and resources into moving towards a more sustainable, balanced and successful food system.
