The humidity broke just in time for Dane county to celebrate it's 40th anniversary of conducting livestock sales to benefit the youth involved in the county fair.
Thursday evening, three couples that helped launch the annual livestock event were recognized for their committment to the counties youth. Romaine and Sandy Ace of Oregon; Jan and Dean Horstmeyer of Cottage Grove; and Dean and Ginny Ziegler of Sun Prairie were recognized for their dedication to the project - and continued support and involvement.
Three special scholarships were presented Thursday evening to graduating exhibitors at the Dane county fair.
Brian Straub, son of Richard and Margaret from Brooklyn, has been involved in animals at the annual livestock sale for 10 years. Straub plans on attending the UW-Madison specializing in agricultural biological systems - with an emphasis in machinery.
Bryan Wendt, son of Sharon and Jerry Wendt of Stoughton, was another scholarship recipient. Wendt's plans include pursuing a degree in bioproducts and biosystems - focusing in on alternative energy solutions at the University of Minnesota - St. Paul. Wendt's been active in the Stoughton FFA for 6 years, and the Triangle Troopers 4-H Club for 10 - exhibiting everything from hogs to goats - and plenty of additional exhibit projects throughout the fair.
The final scholarship presented Thursday evening went to Hope Schlimgen from Blue Mounds. Hope is the daughter of Dennis and Lisa Schlimgen, and has been an active member of the Twin Valley 4-H Club for 13 years.
