Farm News: June Milk Price Went Up In WI

Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $20.70 per hundredweight (cwt.) or $1.77 per gallon for their milk in June 2011, up 49 cents a gallon from June 2010. The July 2011 price is expected to increase $1.40, to $22.10 per cwt. – or $1.90 per gallon at the farm gate.

The expected U.S. milk price for July is $22.10 per cwt., 90 cents higher than last month and the same as Wisconsin’s price. All 23 of the major milk producing states are expecting their July price to be higher than June’s price. California and Idaho are expecting the lowest prices in the country, at $20.70 and $21.00 per cwt., respectively.
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) 40-pound block cheese price closed at $2.1550 per pound on July 29, while barrels were $2.1300 per pound. The CME butter price was $2.1000 per pound.

For the week ending July 23, 2011 the National Agricultural Statistics Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $2.1014 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $2.1364 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $2.0263 per pound.
