One minute Shawn Redman was processing turkey. The next he found himself without his left arm after it was entangled in a machine and severed just below his armpit.

Shortly before midnight July 20, the 35-year-old Barron resident was working at the Jennie-O turkey processing plant in Barron, just as he had for the previous 14 years, when his arm got caught in processing machinery.

"The arm was completely severed, right below his armpit," said Shawn's wife, Angie.

Shawn was able to walk himself out of the factory after the incident. His arm was immediately packed in ice, and he and his arm then were flown to Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, for a surgery that lasted more than 10 hours as doctors reattached the limb.

More details are available in the Eau Claire Leader Telegram and the Rochester Post Bulletin.
