Farm News: Rock Co Farm Service Helps Food PantrycommentsPosted: 08.12.2011 Food banks across the nation are currently facing severe shortages of non-perishable items. For this reason federal employees nationwide are stepping up to meet the challenge of providing food to families in need. The Rock County USDA Service Center is supporting this effort and will be collecting non-perishable food donations at the Rock County Beef Cookout on August 18, 2011 at the Rock County Fairgrounds from 5 to 8 p.m. Donation baskets will be located at the ticket tables during the Beef Cookout. All donations collected will be distributed locally through the Rock County Children’s Christmas Fund.
For those who are unable to attend the Beef Cookout on August 18th, but would like to donate a non-perishable food item, donations may be brought to the USDA Service Center at 440 N. US Highway 14 in Janesville through August 31, 2011.
To date, 1,832 pounds of food has been collected through the Feds Feed Families effort in Rock County. For questions regarding Feds Feed Families or to donate, please contact the Rock County office at 608.754.6617.
