Posted: 08.22.2011

Now through Nov. 1, the Wisconsin Outstanding Young Farmer (OYF) program is accepting nominations for the state Awards Weekend to be held in January 2012.  Nominees should be aged 21 through 38 years old and derive two-thirds or more of their income from farming.   The award is based on 50 percent progress in ag career, 25 percent soil and water conservation and 25 percent contributions to community, state and  nation.

Nominations are sought from agri-business professionals, UW Extension staff, OYF past winners and Jaycee chapters. Nominations are requested now but due no later than Nov. 1, with completed detailed applications due Dec. 1, 2011.

“Our focus is to expand the number of candidates and the variety of commodities represented,” says Cindy Matton, OYF Awards Weekend event organizer. “The OYF program reflects all types of agriculture here in Wisconsin, and we have a diverse array of commodities and producers,” she notes.  Local farmer nominees are sponsored to the state event by local Jaycee chapters or other agricultural groups.
To nominate a deserving farmer or farm couple, send their name, address, phone and e-mail to Daphne Holterman, fax: 920-262-8981, or daphne@rosylane.com
