When the Wisconsin cranberry crop starts showing it's color in the central portion of the state - it means green for the Pittsville FFA/FFA Alumni!  Again this year - the partners are giving cranberry tours to help pay for student scholarships, trips and other related chapter activities.

Bill Urban, Pittsville agriculture teacher, says the two hour cranberry tours take place, just east of Pittsville in the heart of central Wisconsin Cranberry Country. Pittsville FFA members and students of the only Cranberry Science Class taught in the nation will give the all-inclusive tours.

Urban says the tours not only help the chapter raise funds - it also helps the community find out more about how the cranberry industry operates - and how it's growing. Again this year - Wisconsin tops the nation in cranberry production - and more bogs are being added every year.  Urban says this year, any Pittsville School District resident that wants to enjoy the tours can take part FREE of charge.  There will be still be a small fee if they select to stay for lunch.  He says it's their goal of making sure area parents and consumers know not only about the cranberry industry - but also what's happening with the agriculture education program in Pittsville.

The tour will meet at the Pittsville Administration Conference room located on Elementary Avenue just off First Avenue in Pittsville at 9:30 AM the days the tour takes place. The tour includes:
touring a current marsh under construction,
new beds not yet in production,
producing beds with the tourists given the opportunity to pick fresh fruit from the vine,
as well as observing harvest, testing, cleaning and freezing of the berries.

Finally, a box lunch that includes cranberry treats made by the Foods Class at Pittsville High School will be distributed. The charge for the tour is $25 dollars per person outside the school district, discounts for school tours.
