Farm News: WI Haylift Being Organized Now

Wisconsin farmers are quick to offer help in a crisis - but slow to ask for help.  That's why the latest efforts to organize a hay donation project from the state don't surprise growers getting involved.

Waupun Equipment is hosting a hay drive to benefit Farmers and Ranchers in the Oklahoma and Texas drought areas. Due to the severe drought conditions in Texas and Oklahoma, ranchers are in a very difficult position when it comes to providing feed for their cattle. Many have been forced to sell off their entire herds due to lack of rain and extreme heat causing wells to run dry and hay ground to turn to dust.

Waupun Equipment has partnered with Dart Hay Service to send semi loads of hay from our area to ranchers on the Oklahoma/Texas border. They're asking for members of the community to help out by donating large square bales of hay or by sending monetary donations. Donations of any amount of hay or money are accepted and very appreciated. Monetary Donations may be sent to the Waupun Equipment Hay Drive Fund C/O The National Bank of Waupun 210 East Main St, Waupun WI 53963. If you have hay to donate please contact the Waupun Store at 920-324-3597 or Watertown store at 920-261-5301 to reserve space on the trucks.

“The drought conditions have a serious impact on every aspect of agriculture,” says Dan Scheuers, Dealer Principal and Service Manager. “Texas and Oklahoma are key farming and ranching areas and although they are over 1,000 miles away, when a community needs help, as a company and as a community, I know we’ll step up and do what we can to provide some relief.”

For additional information about the drive or how you can help, please contact Carrie Mess with Waupun Equipment at 920-988-7384 or at carrie@waupunequipment.com
Their goal is to have the first shipment of hay ready for delivery around Sept. 19th.
