Carrie Mess with Waupun Equipment, says their efforts to collect Wisconsin hay for farmers in drought stricken Oklahoma and Texas - are going exceptionally well.
In an email to Pam Jahnke, Mess says the first load of collected hay is expected to leave Wisconsin some time this week - and it won't end there. Mess says thanks to the generosity of Wisconsin farmers, they've now received committments for enough donated hay to make at least 5 deliveries south. Mess says they'll keep the hay donation project going as long as the hay keeps coming - and enough money is available to cover transportation costs.
Today, Waupun Equipment will be adding a PayPal link to their website to allow for financial donations to help offset those transportation costs. Mess says that they're receiving calls from all across the United States offering help - and this link will allow for those donations specifically for this effort.
Mess says that the social media chatter over the effort has also been overwhelming. She tells the WI Farm Report that entries on Facebook and "tweets" on Twitter have escalated the visibility of the project. Mess says muscial acts like Cody Canada and The Departed, Seth James, Mickey and the Motorcars, Randy Rogers Band and Midnight River Choir are all elevating the haylift project by talking about it on their respective websites and Facebook pages.
Mess says that a generous donation from Bobcat Lawnmowers should help get this first load of hay underway this week - but then they'll need the financial donations from the community to fund additional deliveries.
