Farm News: Door County Reopening ParkscommentsPosted: 10.05.2011 Rock Island State Park and the Ahnapee State Trail in Door County will reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, after crews have cleared downed trees ad repaired damage from a Sept. 28 windstorm. Crews from around the state are continuing to work to clear downed trees at Peninsula, Potawatomi, Newport, and Whitefish Dunes state parks, which remain closed to all entry. Power has been restored at all parks, and water, restrooms, sewer services and buildings are being repaired. State park officials will reassess the status of the remaining closed parks Wednesday morning, October 5. Campers can check-in at Rock Island State Park beginning on Wednesday morning. Visitors to Rock Island State Park must take the Washington Island Ferry from the Door County mainland to Washington Island, and then take the Rock Island Ferry, which departs from Jackson Harbor, to Rock Island. The Rock Island Ferry departs for Rock Island at 10 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m. The ferry departs Rock Island about 15 minutes later to return to Washington Island. Information about ferry service from mainland Door County to Washington Island is available on the Washington Island Ferry website. |
