The Department of Administration in Wisconsin has announced that Dr. James Kroll will fill the "Deer Trustee" position which was created on September 23, by an executive order of the governor.

The Wisconsin Conservation Congress (WCC) says it's looking forward to working with Dr. Kroll and assisting in any way possible, as he reviews Wisconsin’s white-tail deer management practices.

"Dr. Kroll is nationally known in the world of deer management," said Rob Bohmann, Chair of the WCC, "and Wisconsin is arguably the best white-tail deer hunting state in the US. We are pleased that someone with his credentials was chosen to fill the new position and we (the WCC) appreciate that he has taken on this challenge-he will soon find out how passionate Wisconsinites are about their white-tail deer."

"We already know that the Wisconsin DNR has a very comprehensive management program and monitors the deer population closely, but if there are any other areas we can improve on, we welcome those suggestions," said Bohmann, referring to the 2006 audit of the SAK (Sex-Age-Kill) model by a panel of six academics that concluded that the Wisconsin DNR had "the most comprehensive and transparent deer management program for comparable states that harvest white-tailed deer" and collects more demographic information on an annual basis (than the other 21 states that were reviewed).

The Wisconsin Conservation Congress looks forward to providing input and reviewing Dr. Kroll’s results which are to be completed by June 2012.
