One of the special features of World Dairy Expo is the chance to purchase outstanding dairy genetics.  That was truly the case this week during the "Top of the World" Jersey sale.

Sale organizers said 26 live animals were offered for sale from Jersey herds around the United States.  The top individual sold was Family Hill Vindication Carnegie - ET, from Tillamook, Oregon.  The new owner of that animal is Greg Lambert from Campbellsport, WI for the purchase price of $7,500.

Total sales receipts for the Jersey's live animal sale came to $87,900 - making an average animal price of $3,380.77.  Two lots of semen sold seperately for an average price of $825 each.

There were also 30 "choice" animals sold that averaged $3,315.

Wednesday night the Aryshire breed held their sale - Thursday evening it will be time for the Geurnsey, Milking Shorthorn and BrownSwiss sales - and Friday, the sale that generally draws the most attention - the 2011 World Classic Holstein.
