Farm News: State Milk Production Rebounds

Although Wisconsin's dairy segment may have struggled a little this summer looking for higher milk production - they hit a homerun in September.

The National Ag Statistical Service says in September, Wisconsin milk production went up 1.8% compared to a year ago.  Not bad considering Wisconsin dairy farms have the same number of animals as last year - but each cow produced, on average, 15 pounds of milk more then she did last year.

Not all states were that fortunate.  In Minnesota, dairy production continued to slip with another 0.7% dip.  Missouri showed the largest drop in overall production with a 4.5% decline and 3,000 fewer cows then 2010.

Florida was the state with the biggest increase in September milk production - up a whopping 11.3% and 6,000 more milk cows.  Despite a drought - Texas also saw a big increase in September milk, up 10.1% compared to a year ago - but also boasting 20,000 more milk cows in the state this year versus last.
