Farm News: Brewers Swing For Environment

Posted: 10.21.2011

The Milwaukee Brewers' season may be over, but their popularity will be helping the environment for years.

The Brewers recently donated 150 saplings to the state Department of Natural Resources. The trees are being planted on the state-owned Hank Aaron State Trail in Milwaukee.

The Brewers donated one tree for every 20,000 tickets sold during the regular season. The idea was to offset the trees used to print tickets. Half the trees were planted this month, and the rest will be planted in the spring. The DNR will oversee care and maintenance of the saplings.

The trees include 15 native species such as serviceberry, pagoda dogwood, hackberry, hawthorn, and Kentucky coffee tree. They're being placed along a bike trail and pedestrian bridge.
