Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $21.20 per hundredweight
(cwt.) for their September milk or $1.82 per gallon at the farm gate.  That price is $3.40 higher than last year. The good news apparently ends there though according to state officials. The projections for October milk prices are that they’ll go down $1.40 per hundredweight to $19.80.

The expected U.S. milk price for October is $19.90 per cwt., $1.20 lower than last month, but 10 cents higher than Wisconsin’s price. All 23 of the major milk producing states are expecting a decrease in price from September to October. Michigan is expecting the largest drop in price, with a $1.90 per cwt. decline. New York and Pennsylvania are both predicting decreases of $1.50 per cwt. Idaho, on the other hand, is only expecting a 60 cent drop in price.
