Farm News: Changes Discussed To Humane PracticescommentsPosted: 11.17.2011 Proposed changes to some animal health and humane officer regulations will be the topic of four public hearings in December, State Veterinarian Dr. Robert Ehlenfeldt announced. The proposed changes are to regulations affecting animal disease control in livestock, including farm-raised deer and fish; animal truckers, dealers and markets; and humane officer training and certification. The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection periodically revisits regulations to update them.

Some of the proposed changes streamline movement requirements for farm-raised fish and reduce testing requirements for some farm-raised deer. Under the changes, more stringent requirements would be imposed for passing the humane officer exam, and for humane officers who let their certification expire.
