Farm News: Muzzleloader Deer Hunting Season Opens Today

Still anxious to get in the woods after the 9-day gun deer season? Well, grab your muzzleloader! It's muzzleloader season. It runs for 10 days. It starts today and ends Wednesday, December 7.

What do you need to know?

A rule change which took effect late in 2010 now allows the use of scopes with magnification during the 10-day muzzleloader season.

Just like during the regular 9-day firearm deer season, all hunters (except waterfowl hunters) are reminded that they must continue to wear the required blaze orange clothing when hunting any species (except waterfowl) of game, even if only hunting with a bow.

Muzzleloaders, like other types of firearms, must be unloaded before they may be placed inside any stationary motorized vehicle, or transported in or on any type of vehicle.

For muzzle-loading firearms, unloaded means having the cap removed from a cap lock muzzle-loading firearm, having the flashpan cleaned of powder from any flint lock muzzle-loading firearm, or in the case of an electronic ignition muzzle-loading firearm, having the battery removed and disconnected from the firearm. When this is accomplished, the bullet and powder do not need to be removed from the muzzle-loading firearm.

Got it? Good luck!
