Farm News: Columbia County Corn Growers To MeetcommentsPosted: 12.06.2011
“Do you grow corn in Columbia County or nearby? If so please join us on December 15th for an enjoyable and informative gathering of corn growers and announcement of the 2011 Corn Yield Contest Winners,” states Mark Schroeder, President of the Columbia County Corn Growers Association. “We are confident that you will be impressed by our lineup of exciting presenters.”
Sarah Gallo, director of Public Policy for the National Corn Growers Association will be in attendance to present the National Association perspective on Ethanol, Light Squared, and the Farm Bill. Sarah is coming to be with us from Washington D.C.
Dan Wegner, Commodities Manager for United Wisconsin Grain Producers, LLC will also be with us to discuss grain pricing, health of the ethanol industry, and blending tax credits. Dan is originally from Pardeeville, Wisconsin, where he grew up on a hobby farm with crops and beef cattle. He has a degree in Ag Economics from the University of Illinois and has 20 years experience in the grain markets as a broker, grain merchandiser, and now is Commodities Manager at UWGP near Randolph, Wisconsin.
Scott Smith from Landmark Co-op and Tim Hughes from United Suppliers will provide a panel discussion on Fertilizer Supplies and Pricing. They will help growers understand the relationships involved with supply, demand, transportation, and profitability for farmers.
Bob Oleson, Wisconsin Corn Growers Executive director and Nancy Kavazanjian, Communications Director will provide greetings from the Wisconsin Association. They will also announce the 2011 Columbia County Yield Awards. The first place winner will receive $500 cash, 2nd place will receive $250 cash and 3rd place will receive $100. Door prizes will follow.
The Columbia County Corn Growers meeting will run from 10:00am –noon with a free lunch to follow catered by Mark’s Market courtesy of our sponsors. There is no charge for this event. The meeting will be held at the Leeds Town Hall which is located at N1485 Pribbenow Drive, Arlington.
