United Cooperative, based in Beaver Dam, presented a check for $10,000 to the Generating a Greener Future project, an agriculture and environmental science classroom being built at the Beaver Dam High School.

The BeaverDamSchool District recently raised the graduation requirements for science from two to three credits. This classroom will potentially be used by eight science instructors at the high school, impacting more than 1,000 students annually, and focusing on agriculture, the environment, and the overall science program.

“At United Cooperative, we focus our donation efforts on supporting the future of agriculture,” commented David Cramer, United Cooperative president and chief executive officer. “The world’s population is predicted to increase 40 percent by 2050, requiring about twice as much food as today. We must continue to involve and foster our youth in agriculture so they can learn how to feed this growing population and take care of our environment for the next generation.”

“The Generating a Greener Future project will enhance and develop students’ ability to think critically and perform effectively in a competitive job market, both locally and globally,” noted Mary Vogl-Rauscher, project advisor. “It will create a state-of-the-art laboratory structure that will not only benefit the students of Beaver Dam, but the community, and the over-all agriculture industry, as a whole.”
