Paul Zimmerman, Executive Director of Governmental Relations
for the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation issued the following statement
regarding Governor Scott Walker's decision to not lapse Department of
Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection funding for animal health
inspection services.
"The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation is pleased that the funding for a
variety of animal health inspection services has been maintained. These
services provide vital protection for one of our state's core
industries: agriculture.
This funding helps pay for the important work done by employees at our
state's Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
Whether it be certifying the safety of fish or fowl, horses or Holstein
cows, Wisconsin farm families cannot do business without these strong
protections for animal health.
As one in 10 jobs in Wisconsin is connected to agriculture, protecting
the health of Wisconsin's livestock is vital to maintaining our ability
to export dairy, beef, fish, pork and poultry across the world.
These safety measures help ensure that our family farmers can continue
to be reliable suppliers of food to the global market."
