Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation spokesman Casey Langan issued the following statement regarding Governor Scott Walker’s decision to not cut $102,083 in funding to the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection for county fair aids.
“The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation is pleased the funding that county fairs receive to provide youth with premiums will be maintained in the current state budget.
Along with the work of organizations such as 4-H and FFA, for generations Wisconsin’s county fairs have provided thousands of Wisconsin youth with positive learning experiences.
Agriculture is a pillar of our state’s economy and heritage. Our county fairs remain a premier venue to educate the general public about where their food comes from.
Wisconsin youth take ownership and great pride in their fair projects. These projects not only encourage hands-on learning, but they help mold our next generation of productive citizens.
By providing these dollars to reward fair exhibitors for their hard work, Wisconsin is making a wise investment in its youth.”
