Posted: 01.10.2012

Two Agricultural Enterprise Area workshops scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 18 in Black River Falls and Thursday, Jan. 19 in Oshkosh have been canceled.

Interested individuals can still attend a free workshop set for Thursday, Jan. 12 in Madison to receive guidance on the process for receiving designation as an agricultural enterprise area or AEA. Registration is available online at https://datcpservices.wisconsin.gov/confreg/AEAworkshops.jsp or call (608) 224-4625.

The workshop will be from 10:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in Madison at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, 2811 Agriculture Drive, first floor Board Room.

Those who planned to attend the Black River Falls or Oshkosh workshops are welcome to attend the Madison workshop or contact Coreen Fallat, AEA Program Manager, Coreen.Fallat@wisconsin.gov, (608) 224-4625 for other options.

Landowners and local governments interested in protecting their agricultural land base and strengthening their rural economy are eligible to apply for the 2012 AEA designation. Petitions will be accepted until March 30, 2012 and materials are available online at: http://workinglands.wi.gov, then click on the link to Agricultural Enterprise Areas.

The department’s goal is to designate 250,000 additional acres throughout Wisconsin as agricultural enterprise areas as part of the 2012 petition cycle. To date, 17 areas totaling 340,000 acres have been designated as AEAs. The state has the authority to designate up to 1 million acres total.
