Farm News: Pulaski Couple OYF Winners

A very busy farm couple from Pulaski, in northeast WI, is going to stay busy as the 2012 Wisconsin Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer award winners.

Adam and Becky Kuczer from Pulaski, representing Shawano county, were selected from a field of nine candidates across the state for JCI Wisconsin Jaycees 59th Outstanding Young Farmer (OYF) Awards weekend at the Holiday Inn & Conference Center in Marshfield.

Adam and Becky were married in 2003, and sold their dairy herd in 2007.  Today they concentrate on their 443 acres of cash crops and feeding some dairy steers.  They're also very busy with a young family.  Nicholas' is 6 - Sawyer, 4 - and twins, Clara and Cadence are 1.

The Kuczer's will now represent the state at the National OYF Congress in 2013.

1st Runner-up: Brian & Stephanie Perkins, Richland Center (Richland & Grant Counties), operation consists of 2300 acres where they grow cash corn and soybeans, of which 300 acres are devoted to organic corn and soybeans. Perkins have three children, Tora, 9, Teige, 6 and Tate, 21 months. Sponsored by Richland County OYF. 
2nd Runner-up: Laura Daniels/Jarred Searls, Cobb (Iowa County), maintain a herd of 300 Jerseys and operate 549 acres of land with nearly half of that for grazing. They have two children, Nathan, 11 and Julia, 6.  Sponsored by Vita Plus Corporation and Iowa County Farm Bureau.  
3rd Runner-up: Ryan & Cheri Klussendorf, Medford (Taylor County), run a 246 acre and 120 cow grass-based dairy farm. Sponsored by Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy and Livestock Farmers, Heartland Cooperative and QLF Quality Liquid Feeds.   
 
Speak up for Agriculture winners: Laura Daniels/Jarred Searls, Cobb (Iowa County) for their outreach & education efforts on behalf of production agriculture.   
 
Other finalists in the state event: David & Kathleen Hafemeister, Hustisford; Troy & Ashley Schlender, Watertown; and Todd Thieding, Loganville.

Now the state will watch as Brian & Renee Schaal of Burlington represent the state as last year's OYF winners.  They're headed to the National OYF Congress in Springdale, Arkansas this February.
