Officials involved in a propane explosion at a Landmark Services Cooperative location in Whitewater say teamwork and pre-planning paid off.

The propane explosion happened on Friday afternoon while many of the agronomy team for Landmark were attending the WI Corn/Soy Expo in WI Dells.  Bob Carlson, Landmark Services CEO said that his team had worked through a detailed plan for emergency situations like the propane leak - and were pleased that everything was in place to protect the community.

Carlson said the quick response of Landmark staff and community emergency response teams made the difference in what could have been a more serious situation. Landmark’s Safety Team along with the Whitewater and surrounding community Fire Departments handled the crisis proficiently and with extreme professionalism. Because of this proficiency, and a focused effort on safety and strategic emergency response training, there were no injuries and the collateral damage was contained.

Carlson said, “We have discussed a number of times over the past year that our success and safety cannot be a matter of luck. We will succeed and stay safe on purpose. This past Friday, members of the Whitewater team remained safe on purpose - they pulled together, followed the Emergency Action plan and went home to their families that evening.”
