Farm News: Business Slated For Corn/Soy ExpocommentsPosted: 01.18.2010 Wisconsin corn growers are urged to attend the joint annual meetings of the Wisconsin Corn Growers Association and Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board scheduled for 12:15to 1:15 p.m., Thursday, January 28, in the Marula/Aralia rooms at the Kalahari Conference Center, Wisconsin Dells, in conjunction with the annual Wisconsin Corn/Soy Expo. “Every corn grower in the state who sells corn in commercial channels – whether it is to the local coop, feed mill or ethanol plant – can have a say in how checkoff funds are spent and our annual meeting is a prime opportunity for us to hear from growers,” says Ken Rosenow, Oconomowoc corn grower and WCPB President. “We are especially interested in hearing what priorities our fellow corn growers have for spending checkoff funds.”
WCPB is a producer-elected group responsible for administering the state’s corn checkoff funds, under guidelines provided by the state’s marketing order. The primary objective of the corn marketing order is to maintain and expand sales of Wisconsin corn. This includes development of new products and markets; improving corn production, marketing and handling methods; and educational programs for producers, handlers and consumers relating to the quality or nutritive value of corn and corn products.
WCGA is a membership organization that represents the interest of state corn growers in the growing and managing of corn grown both for on-farm feeding and commercial sale. WCGA works with other organizations in areas of mutual concern, including biotech issues, resistance management, pesticide issues, farmland taxation and valuation, conservation, and the environment. WCGA brings together corn growers to provide information and education at regional corn conferences and the annual Wisconsin Corn/Soy EXPO. As part of NCGA, WCGA represents corn grower interests nationally and internationally and also sponsors the annual corn yield contest.
Admission to the annual meetings is free, however registration is required to attend other Corn/Soy Expo educational programs, events and the trade show. Corn/Soy Expo registration information is available online at www.wicorn.org or by calling the Wisconsin Corn Program Office at 262-495-2232 or via E-mail at info@wicornpro.org . |
