Farm News: Ourada Named New Exec. Director Of WAEWD CouncilcommentsPosted: 01.20.2010 Secretary Rod Nilsestuen has confirmed the hiring of Jack Ourada as the new Executive Director of the Agricultural Education and Workforce Development Council. The Council’s mission is to attract, train and retain a premium quality workforce in agriculture, food, and natural resource related industries. Jack comes to the Council after spending most of his career in agricultural lending. He rose through the ranks in the Farm Credit System, eventually serving eleven years as CEO and President of Farm Credit Services of Northeast Wisconsin. He led the institution through a successful merger process with GreenStone Farm Credit Services and stayed on through the transition. Most recently, Jack was Vice President and Agricultural Loan Officer with Citizens State Bank of Loyal.
Jack began his new duties on January 11, reporting to Paul Dietmann, Director of the Bureau of Farm and Rural Services in the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. Dietmann is also Secretary Nilsestuen’s representative on the Council.
“I am very pleased that Jack has chosen to bring his considerable leadership skills to bear on the work of the Agricultural Education and Workforce Development Council,” Nilsestuen said. “He is well-respected in the state’s agri-business community, and is known for both his clarity of vision and his ability to accomplish challenging goals.”
Jack’s responsibilities will include leading the activities of the 34-member Agricultural Education and Workforce Development Council. He will also be working closely with the leaders of six agricultural workforce development projects funded through the South Central and Southwest Wisconsin Workforce Development Boards’ WIRED Initiative. His goal will be to expand the scope of the WIRED-funded projects statewide through the Council.
The Agricultural Education and Workforce Development Council was created in the spring of 2008 when Governor Jim Doyle signed Wisconsin Act 223. The Council includes representatives from a broad spectrum of industries, educational institutions, and state agencies. Its activities are funded through private donations and grants. Gary Olson had acted as the groups initial executive director.
