Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $17.00 per hundredweight (cwt.) for their milk in December 2009, up 10 cents from December 2008. The January 2010 price is expected to remain steady at $17.00 per cwt. The expected U.S. milk price for January is $16.50 per cwt., unchanged from last month, and 50 cents lower than Wiscon-sin’s price. California, Idaho, and Minnesota are the only states to anticipate a drop in prices from December to January. Cali-fornia is predicting the largest decrease of 55 cents per cwt. Wisconsin and Texas are expecting no change, while Michi-gan, New Mexico, New York, and Pennsylvania are expecting a higher price in January. |
