The Wisconsin Show Pig Association (WSPA) will host a Youth Show Pig Symposium on Saturday, February 27 at Borland’s in Belleville.

The event will cover all things show pigs, from sale day to show day and everything in between. Registration begins at 9:15 a.m., program begins at 10 a.m. and will end at 2 p.m.

In its inaugural year, WSPA is excited to be bringing Brian Hines, National Account Manager with Sunglo Feeds to Wisconsin. Hines previously worked with National Swine Registry (NSR) as a field representative and as Michigan State University Extension livestock agent. Other presenters include WSPA members Jeff Morris, Janesville; Jeff Monson, Richland Center; Curt Watson, Edgerton; Brandon Gill, Platteville; Ron Schmaling, Belleville; TJ Doherty, Johnson Creek and Devan Brugger, Monroe.

Topics that will be covered include: show pig selection, proper feeding, promoting your county meat animal sale, swine care, We Care Campaign, showmanship, WSPA plans for 2010. Youth will have the opportunity to have their questions answered during a panel discussion featuring WSPA member producers. Also, youth will have the chance to meet with producers one-on-one during registration from 9:15-10 a.m.

The symposium is free to WSPA members and $10 for non-members. Lunch is included. Memberships will be available the day of the event. RSVP to wisconsinshowpigassocation@gmail.com by February 24.
