Farm News: WI Cattlemen Host Successful Winter Conference

More then 130 producers from all quadrants of Wisconsin were in Tomah for the 2010 Winter Conference of the Wisconsin Cattlemen.

Kevin Nysse or Denmark will remain on for another term as WI Cattlemen President.  Hank Handzel of Cottage Grove also on board as Past President.  One new face to the board is Scott Hoffman of Soldiers Grove.  Hoffman will act as President-Elect for WCA.  Dave DeLong of Janesville is Treasurer and Lloyd DeRuyter of Cedar Grove is Secretary.

Friday evening the group presented its three most important awards for the year.  The 2010 Wisconsin Cattlemen of the Year went to Darlington producer, Mark Reicher.  The former ag instructor and dairy farmer now concentrates his efforts on his feedlot operation.  Reicher told Pam Jahnke that one of his farms priorities is to select animals that are calm, and easier to handle.  He's currently sourcing his animals out of the southeast for just that reason.  He says he puts a top priority on humanely handling all his livestock - and that "calm" quality really helps.

The 2010 Ag Communicator award went Janelle Thomas of Onalaska, and 2010 "Friend of the Cattlemen" went to Quality Liquid Feeds (QLF) headquartered in Dodgeville.
