Farm News: High Capacity Wells Challenged

State lawmakers have introduced a bill that
allow anyone to challenge high-capacity wells.

Under the Democratic-authored measure, anyone could file a
petition for review of a high-capacity well if he or she can
provide information showing the well is ``reasonably probable'' to
harm surface waters.

Rep. Scott Gunderson, a Waterford Republican, says in a
statement the bill would allow environmentalists to block wells,
costing jobs.

The bill includes a number of other expansions to groundwater
regulation, including requiring state commerce officials to develop
standards for rainwater and laundry and dishwater systems in
buildings and utility regulators to encourage water conservation.

This should serve as a wake-up call for the growers in the Central Sands that the Environmentalists are watching how much water is being pumped on the crops.

The Growers need to look at how to conserve water.
