Farm News: Von Ruden Disappointed With Vilsack MeetingcommentsPosted: 03.16.2010 22 members of the Wisconsin Farmers Union are attending the 2010 National Farmers Union Convention in Rapid City, South Dakota - and they're not necessarily happy with what they're hearing. In an early morning interview with Pam Jahnke, WI President, Darin Von Ruden expressed concern that U.S. Ag Secretary, Tom Vilsack, didn't really grasp what dire straits many dairy farmers are in nationwide. Vilsack addressed the NFU - focusing much of his attention on renewable energy and the role that agriculture can play. Following his general address, Von Ruden was one of a handful of state leaders that met personally with Vilsack. Von Ruden said he told the story of where most dairy farmers stand with regard to the price they're receiving and the debt they're trying to service. Von Ruden said he suggested to Vilsack that he should reinstate an elevated floor for milk prices, as he did through October of 2009. Von Ruden said he was left with the impression that Vilsack's not interested in that option again. The NFU continues with its annual business meeting through Tuesday afternoon. on March 16, 2010 10:28PMWhen the smoke clears pam it all comes down to farmers carry all the burden ,from lenders feeding on what is left of dairy farmers to the gov turning there heads while hard working farmers are lead to slaughter house. Its easyer to control a hand full of farmers then a room full.
