Farm News: WI Farmers In BrazilcommentsPosted: 03.16.2010 Board members and employees of Landmark Services Cooperative are getting some first hand experience on how big the South American crop is this year. The group left Wisconsin on Saturday for a whirlwind tour of Brazil. In an email to Pam Jahnke, Cottage Grove grain manager, Lonnie Harms, says the group landed in Sao Paulo in the southern portion of Brazil on Sunday. He noted that there's been rain, on and off, since they arrived. Temperatures were in the 80's. Harms said that at the Port of Santos, major grain merchandisers like ADM, Cargill, Bunge and CHS are all receiving rail cars and truck loads of soybeans non-stop. Harms said the group's making their way through Brasilia, the central portion of Brazil and location of the capitol. He said they'll be touring a portion of the "Multigrain" farm which is partially owned by CHS. Multigrain, owns over 100,000 hectares of prime farmland in three of the most important agricultural areas of Brazil. Keep checking back for more updates on the Landmark Services tour. |
