Farm News: Wisconsin Crop Progress ReportcommentsPosted: 05.04.2010 Farmers continue to enjoy the nice weather across Wisconsin and are ahead of the 2010 planting schedule. Corn planting is 51% complete, 31 points above the previous week and 30 points above the five-year average. Some early seeded corn has begun to emerge with 2% emergence statewide. Soybean planting has started with 8% reported as complete. This is 5 to 6 points above the five and ten-year averages. Oat planting is starting to wind down, and is 92% complete. Potatoes and other small vegetables continue to be planted acros the state, and fruit trees are blossoming and cranberry growers contine to protect against frost. Despite the rain, many fields are still dry. Strong winds didn't help the moisture situation. Across the state, percipitation is 1.03 to 2.57 inches below normal for the season. Dry conditions are most visible in the north central and northwest parts of the state. |
