Farm News: WI High School Rodeo Marks 23rd YearcommentsPosted: 05.24.2010 The 51st annual Wisconsin High School Rodeo state finals are scheduled for Thursday through Sunday, June 17-20th , at the Richland County Fairgrounds in Richland Center. 2010 marks the 23rd consecutive year for the championships in Richland Center. Over 115 high school cowgirls and cowboys will be competing in a dozen rodeo events for awards, as well as, the right to advance to the National High School Rodeo slated in July in Gillette Wyoming.
Events for the girls include: Barrel Racing, Cutting, Pole Bending, Goat Tying, Breakaway Roping, Team Roping and the Queen’s contest; for the boys: Bareback Bronco Riding, Calf Roping, Team Roping, Cutting, Steer Wrestling, Saddle Bronco Riding and Bull Riding.
Wisconsin one of 41 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia, is a member of the National High School Rodeo Association. The Wisconsin High School Rodeo Association, Inc., is a non-profit organization created to promote good sportsmanship, horsemanship and character in the youth of the state. The sport is open to any high school student that meets the National grade and conduct qualifications. Wisconsin is happy to include contestant members from Iowa, Illinois, on their rodeo roster.
Contestants are in competition for a number of awards, prizes and scholarships including the top awards of All-Around Cowboy and All-Around Cowgirl, also Reserve All-Around Cowboy and Cowgirl.
There are three contestants competing for the title of 2010 Wisconsin High School Rodeo Queen.
Five rodeo performances are scheduled; Friday and Saturday, June 18th and 19th, at 1:30 and 7:30 and Sunday, June 20th , at 1:00.
The Friday Night Performance is designated as “Wear Pink for Grace” a Dollar of every paid Ticket for that night goes to Walk for Grace Advance tickets are available at a number of Richland Center businesses Burnstad’s Market, Ed’s Family Foods, Richland Mobil Mart, TKS, Bindl Tire & Auto at other ticket outlets in Boaz at The Boaz Country Store, and in Muscoda at Walsh’s Ace Hardware.
