Farm News: Ride To Farm Is On Again!

It's limited to 50 hearty souls that believe beginning farmers should have a chance - and its back!

The annual "Ride to Farm" is a 65-mile bicycle ride designed to raise awareness (and funds) for the Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy and Livestock Farmers (WSBDF).  Retiring farmers are leaving farming at a much faster rate then NEW farmers are starting!  That's what motivated the group to mobilize.

The Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy and Livestock Famrers hopes to meet the critical need of training, mentoring and supporting Wisconsin’s next generation of dairy and livestock farmers. The program emphasizes low-capital, environmentally friendly, grass-based dairy farming. About 300 students have attended the school and more than 75 percent of its graduates are farming.

The School is sponsored by the Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems and the Farm and Industry Short Course, both within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, UW-Madison.

This year the event will begin at the Lake Farm Park on the southeast side of Madison and feature a stop at Truttmann Dairy Farm in New Glarus for lunch.

There is a $50 charge to be involved in the ride, and other rules that riders should be aware of.  The goal is that riders will raise more then their $50 to benefit the school.  Find out details at http://ridetofarm.dojiggy.com/index.cfm?PageID=71187
