The Wisconsin Historical Society has honored
urban farmer Will Allen.

Allen is the chief executive officer of Growing Power, a
national nonprofit organization based in Milwaukee that promotes
sustainable farming methods.

Allen, also a former professional basketball player, received
the William Dempster Hoard Award for Distinction in Agriculture.
He was honored during the society's Fifth Annual Wisconsin
History Makers Gala at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee.

Also honored were University of Wisconsin-Madison band director
Michael Leckrone, Milwaukee School of Engineering president
emeritus Robert Spitzer and retired Briggs & Stratton CEO Frederick
Stratton, Jr.
