Tom Barrett today outlined his comprehensive, 16-page plan to strengthen Wisconsin’s agricultural economy.

“Agriculture is an essential part of Wisconsin’s way of life, and our economy – generating $59 billion in economic activity and supporting more than 400,000 jobs,” said Barrett. “With a committed partner in the governor’s office, we can leverage Wisconsin’s traditional strength in agriculture to increase growth, diversity, profitability and innovation.”

Tom’s detailed plan focuses on five elements: making Wisconsin once again America’s true Dairyland; expanding other value added agriculture; gaining energy independence through agriculture; restoring the Wisconsin Idea to production agriculture; and keeping Wisconsin’s rural economy competitive. Each of these elements are outlined below.

Tom’s discussion of his plan to keep Wisconsin agriculture strong coincides with the start of June Dairy Month. This weekend Tom will be sharing his vision and meeting people at dairy breakfasts and other dairy celebrations in West Salem, Black River Falls, Elmwood and Greenleaf.
