Hoards Dairyman magazine is celebrating its 125th anniversary in bo-vine fashion, by unveiling an updated version of "Foster Mothers of the Human Race" - painted by Minnesota dairy artist, Bonnie Mohr.

Tuesday, at the Hoards Dairy Farm outside of Fort Atkinson - the painting was unveiled for the public.  Mohr tells Pam Jahnke she's been working on the painting since February - hoping to not only replicate the breed traits in all seven, but also create an air of approachability.  The original "Fosters" painting only included 5 of the breeds - but now there are 7 officially recognized by the Purebred Breed Association.  That meant that Mohr was challenged to add the Milking Shorthorn and the Red and White Holstein representatives without crowding the scene.

Mohr said she strives for perfection in her art - and that meant several revisions on the color components of the Brown Swiss and the Milking Shorthorn.

The print will be circulated through the Hoards Dairyman magazine - see details at http://www.hoards.com/bookstore/FMG

Mohr's not done with her painting presentations this year either.

She tells Pam Jahnke that she's still got a few brush strokes to go before she completes another major work that will be auctioned off at the 2010 National Holstein Convention in Bloomington, MN June 26-29.
Mohr said that painting (obviously featuring Holsteins) will also include an inspirational phrase that's incorporated into the picture.  Mohr says that's a first for her work - and she believes it may be her best work yet!
