Farm News: Riley Captures National ScholarshipcommentsPosted: 06.09.2010 Jordan Riley is Wisconsin’s recipient of a national $1,000 scholarship for FFA members whose families belong to Farm Bureau. Riley, 18, is a 2010 graduate of Darlington High School, where he served as parliamentarian, reporter and treasurer of the local FFA chapter. He lives on a beef farm, Riley Brothers Angus, with his parents Jon and Cheryl Riley in Lafayette County. Riley serves as president of the Fayette Go-Getters 4-H Club and has exhibited beef cattle and swine at the Lafayette County Fair. This fall Riley plans to pursue a degree in agricultural business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The National FFA Organization awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a student in all 50 states. American Farm Bureau Federation and Ram Trucks (a division of Chrysler Group LLC.) sponsor the scholarship for FFA students from Farm Bureau families. Selection of recipients is also based on the applicant’s academic record, FFA and other school and community activities, supervised agricultural experience program in agricultural education and future goals.
The National FFA Scholarship Program was funded by 132 sponsors, providing 1,589 individual scholarships (having grown from 16 scholarships in 1984) worth more than $1.9 million. A total of 8,305 students applied.
