Corn emergence was almost finished at 98 percent complete. The average height of corn throughout the state was reported at 11 inches high. Nitrogen and weed control applications continue in some parts of the state.

Soybeans planted was 97 percent complete, while soybeans emerged was 85 percent complete. Emergence was reported as uneven in Northern counties due to the dry conditions, but recent moisture has greatly improved the crop. Some reports also stated soybeans were starting to turn yellow due to lack of sunlight.

Oats headed was reported at 38 percent complete throughout the state. Oat fields were reported as doing well, but spraying is needed to control the weeds that have begun to show.

Winter wheat is nearly all headed out now and beginning to fill. Reports stated winter wheat is responding well to the cool, damp weather. Winter wheat conditions were rated 86 percent Good to Excellent.

First cutting hay was reported at 74 percent complete. Those still waiting to harvest first crop were delayed by recent rain and damp conditions. While the rain has hindered progress of first crop harvest, it has greatly aided second crop. Many reported second crop as coming back fast and looking good. A few reports stated that evidence of weevil in hay fields has been found.

Apple trees have been reported as looking good. Some hail damage was reported on apple trees in the northeast portion of Crawford County.

Pick your own strawberry season started in Shawano County with reports of excellent quality and taste. High yields were reported in Rock County.

Potatoes have been reported as looking great and beginning to bloom. One report in Oneida County stated that potatoes are being hilled.
