Farm News: Come on Down to the Stoughton Fair!commentsPosted: 07.01.2010 Feature by summer intern, Ashley Nimtz The 85th Stoughton Fair is well underway! Rob White, a fair board member and past president, says they are expecting around fifty thousand people to attend the fair this year. The Stoughton Fair, “The Fair that Always Makes Good,” is the place to be, with lots of entertainment and plenty of animals and exhibits to see. White says that there are over 700 exhibitors showing off their hard work this year, so be sure to come check it out!
Exhibitors at the Stoughton Fair can be of all ages, White says ages range from clover buds at age seven to open show exhibitors in their nineties. Most of the 700 exhibitors are either in 4-H or FFA but White explained that they have a few of the same open show exhibitors come back every year. Some of the project areas exhibited at the fair are crops, dairy and meat animals, horticulture, photography and many more.
The Stoughton Fair is an independent fair unlike a county fair. The main difference being that the Stoughton fair is self funded and open to anyone as long as they are in 4-H or FFA for the juniors, but anyone can be in the open show. Because the Stoughton Fair is not affiliated with a county, they can draw in people from many surrounding counties such as Dane, Rock, Green, and Walworth counties. The Stoughton Fair also skips having a meat animal sale. This way all of the animals at this fair can go home and be shown at other fairs throughout the summer.
If you are looking for something to do over the Fourth of July weekend… head on out to the Stoughton air! It runs from June 30th through July 4th and is located at the Mandt Park in Stoughton, WI.
